Reaction Paper month of January

Aquino to study possible reimposition of death penalty
President Benigno S. Aquino III on Wednesday said he will study the re-imposition of maximum penalty of death in the wake of calls from various groups following several heinous crime cases recently

In an interview at the 65th Founding Anniversary of the Liberal Party at Club Filipino in San Juan City, the President expressed concern over the reimplementation of the capital punishment, saying that in the present judicial system, suspects who do not have the ability to secure the services of competent lawyers are prone to be wrongly convicted.

The Chief Executive said that death penalty can only be fully applied in a perfectly-existing judicial system.

Capital punishment in the Philippines was abolished on June 24, 2006, the second time since 1987.
Since it was reintroduced in 1993, seven people have been executed. Abolition of the death penalty has generally occurred in correlation with increasing democratization in nation-states around the world.

My Reaction:

The President is now studying the re-imposition of the maximum penalty of death. However, according to our president he is not so in-favor of bringing back the penalty. The current system in our country is not perfect therefore, there is a chance that an innocent will be given this penalty. Our vice-president is in-favor of implementing again the penalty so that the crime will drop.
If the maximum penalty of death is the answer to lessen our crime rate then it should be implemented again. By lessening our crime rate the ban of other country to us will therefore be diminish. Due to the less crime, investors and business firms will be attracted to our country. There will be a new job opening due to the investments. The economy of our country will rise and its security measures will improve as well.
Nevertheless, our country today is almost as if religious side is over control. They are the one who always block these good movement and some human rights that make this penalty quite unpopular to them. As I thought that there is always a division between the state and the church so they must follow to whatever our government is doing.
The implementation of maximum penalty of death will give us good benefits. However, our president has a good point that there will be an innocent victim will be accused and the process of it cannot be undo.
So whether it is good our bad to implement back the penalty there will always be final decision to make. As for me, I am hopping that this penalty will be passed again.

Reaction Paper. DEC.

GMA wants Absentee Voting Act amended
Former President and now Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo wants a higher voter turnout from overseas Filipino overseas workers in the next Philippine election by giving them more access to registration centers all over the world.
Arroyo filed House Bill 3001 amending Republic Act 9189 also known as the Overseas Absentee Voting Act, which provides for the systems and procedures by which Filipino citizens residing or working abroad can vote in an election
Under the bill, registration for overseas absentee voting will be made more accessible to Filipinos worldwide by way of setting up field and mobile registration centers by the posts concerned.
Arroyo said of the total 364,187 overseas Filipinos who registered, only 233,092 cast their votes representing only 64%.
Arroyo explained that several factors were identified to have caused the low voter turnout such as shortened registration period, stringent voting requirements, limited voting facilities, limited days-off from work and cost considerations among others.
"This bill aims to enfranchise more Filipino overseas voters by relaxing restrictive provisions of the law which will surely give our countrymen abroad a stronger voice in choosing our leaders."

My Reaction

The former President file a house bill law that will allow Absentee Voting to register electronically and participate on the historic election voting of the Philippines. This will really help our fellow Filipino to participate more by giving them a more accessible way to register and vote.
This law will increase the absentee voting. Using such, technology will encourage more people to participate with less hassle on the part or the people and facilitators.
In addition, by implementing this law another problem will occur for example the legality of identity and security flaws. This may lead to another cheating issues. Moreover, even I do not trust Arroyo for what I know did many Scandals in her Presidency.
She may also use this law to cheat for she is the one behind this. Anyway, this bill is useful for our fellow Filipino. I hope this law will properly implemented without any scandals.
 Happy Holiday!
